The Walking Dead

It had to happen! A new TV series based on the zombie premise, called The Walking Dead. Starts off with a guy coming out of a coma in hospital (cough: 28 Days Later). This chap is a US Sheriff who was wounded and he sets off across the USA to find his missing daughter and wife, killing the undead along the way.

Explanation for zombies? Virus. Jeez, I catch a Virus, I normally end up in bed for 24 hours unable to move, rather than becoming an undead cannibal. But hey-ho.

The walking dead TV series

I am an author of various fantasy, science fiction, crime and other genre books from Gollancz, Hachette and HarperCollins. Some day I hope to grow up and be an astronaut. Exploring Mars would be nice.

I have never been too fond of the zombie genre. They all seem a little bit samey too me.

wow you mentioned 28 days later? how about the show they both ripped off? the 1981 mini series of Day of the Triffids?

Actually i recommend you check out the series Angela. The comic is decent and the best zombie story since 1978’s Dawn of the Dead.

The director (who also did the Mist) Frank (spelling?) Daramont is working on this. He and the author of the comic are tweaking things, changing things around so even those that follow the comic should be pleasntly surprised.

Besides the Venture Brothers its the only Genre tv im looking forward to seeing this fall. Apparently everyone who has seen it is so impressed that a second season of 13 episodes has been commissioned by AMC, to begin filming in Feb. 2011. The 6 episodes of season one begin the end of October here in the US.

Another good Zombie story you might want to check out is the UKs ‘Dead Set’ miniseries which came out the end of 2008 I believe.

The movie [Rec] also had a great take on the concept.

At least for the zombie Genre thats what I’d recommend.

WOW!!! I bet the person who wrote this article has not even read the comicbook series that came out *Cough before 28 Days Later*. The comic itself is an epic and coming out with a live-action series is a great move. Before you guys write or even comment on “The Walking Dead,” look it up and you’ll see it’s becoming renowned in the comic book world.

28 Years Later – the rage virus has weakened to the point where people just get really irritable. As a result, there is still no reconstruction going on because no one is on speaking terms. This leads to Dawn of the Grateful Dead – a virus that causes people to mellow out & make tie dye clothing but at least they get along. Music by Mickey Hart based on endless improvised guitar solos.
