HarperCollins Summer Party

Tonight is one of the few opportunities for a young (who am I kidding) fantasy author such as myself to get about town and meet the great and the good. Yes, it is the night of the HarperCollins Summer Party. As well as invited authors, editors, agents and HQ staff a-plenty, I will also get to meet the celebrity list who produce novels for HarperCollins – movie and TV stars, politicians, comedians.

This is as near as it gets to a red carpet in my life, so to whet your appetite for the pictures I shall take for you in London tonight, here is the invite – always as much a thing of beauty (last year’s was engraved by laser on a transparent block of perspex), as the cover art and books of HarperCollins themselves.

Unfortunately, my agent, John Jarrold, has been laid low by a throat infection, so I am having to consume his free drinks for him this evening, and perhaps carry the conversation a little more than normal – no easy feat when you’ve worked in publishing as long as John has.

Still, one can but try.

Will I prove up to the task?

Tune in for tomorrow’s blog, gentle reader.
